LCD Video Wall vs LED: How to Choose

Short answer Choose LCD video wall when the budget is fixed, the viewing distance is over 2 m and a thin seam is acceptable. Choose LED when the surface must be seamless, non-rectangular, very bright, or viewed up close. Below roughly P1.5, LED costs several times more per square metre than LCD.

The three conditions that decide it

  1. Is a visible seam acceptable? A command centre showing windowed dashboards tolerates bezels; a retail brand wall does not.
  2. How close does anyone get? Under 2 m, LCD bezels become the dominant visual feature.
  3. Is the surface rectangular? Curves, columns and irregular shapes rule out LCD entirely.

Budget decides only after these three. Running the numbers first, before the shape and distance are settled, is the most common way these projects go wrong.

No. The best commercial panels reach roughly 0.88 mm combined bezel. That is a visible line, just a thin one. Only LED gives a genuinely continuous surface.

Which lasts longer?

LED typically rates 100,000 hours to half brightness against roughly 50,000-60,000 for LCD, but LED brightness degrades unevenly across modules, which shows as patchiness before end of life.

Can either be repaired in place?

LED modules are individually replaceable, often from the front on modern cabinets. An LCD panel failure means swapping a whole tile and colour-matching it to its neighbours.
